Residential moving questions

How far in advance should I book?

Two to four weeks for a local move, three to five for an in-state move, and six weeks for interstate. Add two weeks to any of those between June and August, because that is when everyone moves and the trucks commit first.

Do you give a price over the phone?

We send a written estimate instead. A number given over the phone before anyone knows what you own is a number that changes on moving day, which is exactly the thing people hate about movers.

What is the difference between hourly and flat rate?

Local moves are hourly because the drive is short and the variable is how long the carry takes. Once the drive is measured in hours, a flat rate built from weight and distance is fairer, because the traffic becomes our risk rather than yours.

Do I need to be there on moving day?

Someone with authority to make decisions should be at both ends: where furniture goes, what stays, what gets carried by hand. It does not have to be you, but it should not be nobody.

What will you not move?

Fuel, propane, aerosols, ammunition, paint and pool chemicals, because they are not legal to carry. We also ask you to keep passports, jewellery, medication and cash with you rather than on the truck.
